The Former President's Approach Constitute a Threat to Our Social Fabric.

The internal and external policies – from the challenge to the democratic process in the past to current incursions and warnings – undermine not only domestic and international legal frameworks. The implications are broader.

They endanger the very concept of a civilized world.

The moral purpose of a functioning society is to prevent the stronger from harming and taking advantage of the less powerful. Otherwise, we risk being trapped in a conflict of all against all where only the fittest could survive.

This ideal lies at the center of the Declaration and Constitution. It’s also the core of the global system established after WWII championed by the US, emphasizing multilateralism, popular sovereignty, human rights, and the supremacy of law.

Yet, it is a vulnerable principle, often broken by those who choose to misuse their authority. Upholding it necessitates that the influential have the moral fortitude to refrain from seeking temporary advantages, and that the public ensure they answer for their actions when they fail.

Unfettered might is not right. It results in uncertainty, upheaval, and hostilities.

Whenever individuals, companies, or nations that are advantaged attack and exploit those that are weaker, the framework of society unravels. If these actions are left unchecked, the fabric unravels. If not stopped, the world can descend into disorder and conflict. We have seen this pattern previously.

We now inhabit a society and world grown vastly more unequal. Influence and wealth are held by fewer hands than in modern history. This invites the powerful to exploit the disadvantaged because they perceive themselves as untouchable.

The resources of certain ultra-wealthy individuals is difficult to fathom. The power of major corporations in technology, energy, and aerospace covers numerous countries. Artificial intelligence is could further concentrate wealth and power even more. The offensive capability of the major powers is unprecedented in recorded history.

Empowered by a compliant faction and a pliant judicial body, the executive office has been turned into the supreme and answerable-to-none entity of state power in recent memory.

Put it all together and you grasp the danger.

A clear connection links earlier breaches of norms to current provocations. Both were premised on the arrogance of absolute power.

There is parallel dynamics in the actions of other powers: in wars of aggression, in coercive diplomacy, and in the rampant monopolization by massive conglomerates.

Yet, strength without restraint does not establish right. It makes for uncertainty, upended order, and war.

The lessons of the past reveal that frameworks designed to limit the influential also shield them. Without such constraints, their endless appetite for more power and wealth in time bring them down – taking down their enterprises, countries, or domains. And threaten world war.

This kind of disregard for rules will cast a long shadow over the nation and the world – and the very idea of civilization – for years to come.
