Micky van de Ven Double Halts Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at each end of pitch

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
