NBA game action

The Miami Heat scored 86 first-half scores versus the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a decisive 146-114 win against the Grizzlies in their initial NBA match since guard Rozier was detained for alleged illegal gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a broad federal investigation into sports betting. The two individuals contest the claims.

However, the Miami team were focused as they scored 86 first-half points to be ahead of Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Full support," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Terry is a person who is very dear to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our team.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces this."

The Trail Blazers also won their initial match since the arrests, with Brazilian Splitter taking over as interim coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the squad to a decisive 139 to 119 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his family but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, league head Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

The commissioner also said an league probe into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We investigated the matter and were open about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
