Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.

The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
