News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
