Deli item hurled by protester reportedly burst and left mustard stain on immigration officer, legal proceedings reveal

A American border officer has testified he could detect through his body armor the collision of a sandwich hurled at him by a DC demonstrator, who has faced court proceedings for assault.

Immigration and customs agent the officer informed the court panel the food item "shattered all over him" and he "detected the aromatic vegetables and mustard" on his work clothing.

Both legal teams contests that the accused, in his thirties, did in fact lob obscenities and a made-to-order snack at authorities deployed by the administration to secure the nation's capital in August.

The event was recorded on recording and spread across the internet, making Mr Dunn a symbol of opposition in Washington DC to the former president.

Government prosecutors initially tried to secure serious criminal counts against the accused, but a legal panel declined to prosecute him.

Trump's sending of armed forces to the capital this summer caused anger from some of the DC citizens, who viewed it as a partisan deployment of the military.

According to court papers, the accused came near a law enforcement team at about late evening on 10 August, describing them "fascists" and shouting: "What is your purpose? You are not welcome in my city!"

The legal proceeding saw a re-enactment from the officer on Tuesday as he gave evidence against Mr Dunn.

"I could feel it through my body armor," he said of the sandwich's impact, noting that an aromatic fragment dangled from his police radio and mustard stained his uniform.

Mr Dunn's attorney, his legal representative, said in her initial argument that hurling the deli product was a "non-threatening act that did not, could not, create physical damage".

But government attorney the prosecutor said the accused must be facing consequences.

"Whatever your status, you should not hurling objects at individuals because you're angry," the prosecutor stated.

Subsequent to the alleged assault was revealed, the defendant was fired from his employment as a paralegal in the federal legal agency.
