Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
